Music stars, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Garth Brooks will feature in the long awaited classic, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’, director Rob Reiner has confirmed.

The new release which will see Reiner reprise his role as mockumentary director Marty DiBergi, was planned to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the original film, ‘Spinal Tap’.

It will also reunite David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) for their first time since their acoustic set at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019.

Spinal Tap Call DiBergie Film “a hatchet job”

The sequel will focus on Spinal Tap’s bitter reunion, as they reunite to perform at a contractually obligated show.

This show will take place following the death of Tony Hendra, who died in March 2021. Hendra played the band’s long suffering manager Ian Faith.

Spinal Tap II will also explore the original film’s fallout, especially their concern about how they were viewed on their disastrous American tour.

Spinal Tap have called DiBergie’s film “a hatchet job”.

Back in 2020, the creators of this famous mockumentary also reunited at a virtual event, to raise funds for the Pennsylvania Democrats ahead of the US election that year. More on this here.

Speaking of Paul McCartney, a famous Hofner Bass belonging to the Beatles star has also gone under the hammer.

The guitar is going up for auction for $250,000. It was also gifted to a music executive from McCartney’s personal collection in the 1990s.
