Paul McCartney is open to the idea of a posthumous collaboration with Prince.

The Beatles legend praised the late Purple Rain singer in a recent interview, naming his track, Kiss, as a personal favourite.

“He took a lot from Hendrix, but he was a great player", McCartney continued. “It’s just so simple, again to pull that kind of thing off, you can do a kind of simple thing, and it can just sound simple but not great, but his sounds simply great. He’s a wizard".

McCartney also went on to share a surprise anecdote involving Prince covering a track which was originally scribed by McCartney.

He said: “I was with some guy, a couple of years ago so it was after Prince had died, and he said, ‘Have you heard Prince do ‘Long and Winding Road’? I said, ‘Well no, that’s one of my songs, I don’t think he ever did it".

It was reported that Prince covered 'The Long and Winding Road' on concert 12 times, with most of these renditions taking place during a residency at Club 3121 in Las Vegas in 2007.

Recordings of Prince's cover of this track was sent to McCartney, who stated that Prince produced a "kind of rocky", with "some really good guitar on it".

He added: “It’s really great, so I’m going to ask them [for permission to use it]. Because I could make it into something really good".

News of this comes a week after Paul McCartney appeared on the final episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where he closed out with a live performance of classic Beatles track, 'Hello Goodbye'.

While appearing on the show, McCartney also gifted the host a signed and framed photo from the show, as the pair also discussed various topics, including upcoming Beatles biopics, where McCartney joked that he is more culture than the actor who will be playing him, Paul Mescal.
