Phil Collins has revealed he's in hospital recovering from knee surgery after much speculation he was dying in a hospice.

Rumours have been rife the singer was on his death bed after being admitted to a hospice but his spokesperson has now broken their silence to end speculation. They confirmed he is in fact in hospital recovering from knee surgery.

Collins, 74, fuelled worries over his health after telling fans he was “very sick” back in 2022. In March of that year he sparked concern after turning up to his last ever Genesis gig in a wheelchair.

He then retired from live performances after admitting he could "barely hold a drumstick."

If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything,” he continued. "If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I’ll have a crack at it. But I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.”

In a recent documentary Phil disclosed how years of bashing drum sets had physically impacted his body.

“I’m kind of physically challenged a bit which is very frustrating because I’d love to be playing up there with my son,” he said amid the Genesis reunion shows, which saw his son Nic stand in for him. “I would love to but, you know, I mean I can barely hold a stick with this hand, so there are certain physical things that get in the way.”

He suffered a spinal injury in 2007, which damaged vertebrae in his upper neck and also left him with nerve damage.

The In The Air Tonight singer also has acute pancreatitis, a disease where the pancreas becomes inflamed and swollen over a short period of time.

In addition Phil suffers from "foot drop" which sees him now wearing orthopedic shoes.

The musician is father to five children including Nic Collins, 24, and Matthew Collins, 18, with wife Orianne Cevey, as well as Lily Collins, 36, with ex Jill Tavelmanplus Simon Collins, 48, and Joely Collins, 52, with ex Andrea Bertorelli. He was married to his first wife, Andrea Bertorelli, from 1975 to 1980, followed by his second marriage to Jill Tavelman from 1984 to 1996, and his third wife, Orianne Cevey, from 1999 to 2008.
