One of Dublin's most celebrated restaurants is set to close its doors for good later this year, with chef Niall Davidson announcing that Allta will serve its final menu before shutting down on December 31.
The popular Grand Canal Dock restaurant, which is listed in the Michelin Guide and was previously designated by The Irish Times as "restaurant of the year", has become a favourite among food lovers since opening seven years ago.
Announcing the news on Tuesday, Davidson revealed that Allta's final chapter will begin on July 1, when the restaurant starts serving a special farewell menu designed to celebrate its journey.

Sharing an emotional message on social media, the chef reflected on the origins of the restaurant and the question that inspired him to create it.
"Seven years ago, I moved back to Ireland with a question, not a business plan, not a concept or strategy, just a simple question I kept asking myself during my years of travelling and cooking around the world."
"What if I built an Irish restaurant? What would it look like, how would it feel, where would it be?"
Davidson said he never imagined where that question would lead him, describing a journey that included multiple restaurant locations, thousands of services and countless memorable experiences with staff, suppliers and customers.
Reflecting on his proudest memories, he said the highlights were not the awards or recognition but the people he met along the way.
"My lasting memories and moments I will cherish were not the accolades but the journey."
"Loading vans in the rain, late-night menu discussions, conversations on fishing boats, truly connecting with like-minded people made the monumental challenges I put on myself so much easier and enjoyable and working side by side with my wife for the last five years of this journey has been a dream come true."
The chef also paid tribute to his team, adding: "Every chapter of Allta has defined me, every challenge has made me stronger, and every single moment cooking alongside my team has shaped me into a better chef."

Confirming the closure, Davidson said: "But now, after seven years, it's time to ask myself a new question."
"So we will be finishing Allta and this chapter of my life on December 31."
Before then, diners will have one final opportunity to experience the restaurant, with Davidson promising a special send-off.
"Our final menu will be a celebration of seven years over seven courses. I would love to cook for you all one last time as head chef of Allta."

The announcement prompted an outpouring of support from customers, many sharing memories of meals enjoyed at the restaurant over the years.
One diner wrote: "Feel very lucky to say I've experienced every Allta location. Will def be in for a last fix."
Another added: "I feel so fortunate to have experienced such a phenomenal food experience. I will be sure to come back as much as possible before December 31st."
Others thanked Davidson for his contribution to Dublin's food scene, while many expressed excitement about whatever project the chef chooses to pursue next: 'Cannot wait to see what is next.' Another wrote 'You’ll be amazing everywhere. Thank you for so many wonderful memories.'
The closure will also see Allta na Farraige, Davidson's seafood bar located nearby at Grand Canal Dock, cease trading.
Reservations for Allta's final menu can be made directly with the restaurant ahead of its last service on December 31.
