An investigation is underway into a suspected arson attack on an islamic prayer hall in Dublin yesterday.

The fire broke at the Al Madinah Hall on Talbot Street in the city centre at around 3:30 yesterday.

Three people were evacuated from the building and nobody was injured.

A man in his 40s has been arrested in relation to the investigation and is being detained at a garda station in Dublin.

Parts of Dublin's north city centre were closed to traffic after the fire broke out, resulting in the luas being suspended and traffic diversions.

Dublin Fire Brigade said that four fire engines with 20 personnel were sent to the scene after smoke had been reported.

Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry and that they do not believe the attack is linked to the far-right or has any racist elements.

The fire was brought under control and the building has been sealed for forensic examination. The building has also been left excessively damaged.
