Radio Nova is joining 20 other independent radio stations across Ireland in a new nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness of road safety.
The initiative, led by Ireland’s independent radio sector, will see more than 1,200 programmes and shorter radio features broadcast across the participating stations over the coming year.
Radio Nova will be creating and broadcasting its own road safety content as part of the campaign, with a focus on practical information and the real-life consequences of road collisions.
The initiative comes as the number of deaths on Irish roads continues to rise.
Latest Garda figures show that 133 people have died on Ireland’s roads so far in 2026, compared with 120 during the same period last year.
As part of the initiative, Radio Nova will use its own presenters, producers and editors to create content specifically for its listeners.
The programming will look at the issues affecting road users and will include practical advice, interviews and real-life stories.
Content across the wider initiative is expected to feature first-hand testimony from people who attend road collisions and support those affected, alongside information and analysis from An Garda Síochána, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and local authorities.
Radio Nova is one of 21 independent stations taking part, covering communities across the country.
The participating stations will collectively broadcast more than 100 documentary and discussion programmes, alongside around 1,100 shorter feature episodes.
Radio remains particularly relevant to road safety messaging because 41% of radio listening in Ireland takes place in vehicles.
Michael Kelly, Chief Executive of the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland, said the initiative will give listeners across Ireland more information about road safety and how to stay safer on the roads.

The 21 stations taking part are C103, Clare FM, Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio, East Coast FM, Galway Bay FM, Highland Radio, KFM, KCLR96FM, Limerick’s Live 95, LMFM, Midlands 103, Midwest Radio, Northern Sound, Ocean FM, Q102, Radio Nova, Shannonside, South East Radio, Sunshine 106.8, Tipp FM and WLR.
The project is supported by the News Reporting Scheme, which helps fund public interest journalism through Coimisiún na Meán and the Exchequer.
Radio Nova will be taking part in the initiative over the coming year, helping to put road safety at the centre of its programming and encouraging its listeners to think about how their actions can affect themselves and other road users.
