Radio Nova's Pat Courtenay presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to legendary Irish guitarist Pat McManus at the fifth annual Phil Lynott Convention in Dublin on Saturday, August 22.
The event took place at The Button Factory and was organised by convention organiser Sean Meaney.
McManus is best known as the guitarist and one of the founding members of Northern Irish rock band Mama’s Boys, which he formed alongside his brothers John and Tommy.
The McManus brothers grew up on a farm near the village of Derrylin, County Fermanagh, and started their musical career as award-winning traditional Irish musicians; but were inspired by the Irish celtic rock band, Horslips, as well as younger brother Tommy's passion for the drums to form a rock band.
Mama's Boys enjoyed major success during the 1980s, releasing several albums and touring alongside some of rock's biggest names, including Thin Lizzy, Bon Jovi, Ratt and Deep Purple.
McManus was also a longtime friend and associate of Phil Lynott, with Mama’s Boys supporting Thin Lizzy on their farewell tour.
Following Mama’s Boys, McManus went on to form Celtus with his brother John before developing a successful solo career and forming the Pat McManus Band.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises his decades-long contribution to Irish rock music.
