Over 70,000 Leaving Certificate students are receiving exam results today.

From 10am today, Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied candidates will be able to access their results through the SEC's Candidate Self Service Portal.

Schools will also be able to access results for candidates in their school and are advised to offer support for students receiving results today.

According to reports, 70,411 students are receiving results today, 65,326 Leaving Certificate candidates and 4,779 Leaving Cert Applied candidates.

The Chairperson of the State Examinations Commission released a statement this morning congratulating those receiving their results this morning.

"Today is a significant day for the thousands of young people across the country who took their Leaving Certificate examinations this year. I, along with my fellow Commissioners, wish to extend our sincere congratulations to every candidate receiving their results this morning. I wish to acknowledge parents, guardians and other family members who have played a significant role in supporting candidates through their examinations," the statement read.

According to RTE, fewer top grades have been awarded to Leaving Cert students as grade deflation continues.

Data from the State Examinations Commission revealed that the proportion of H1s is down by over one-and-a-half percentage points compared to the class of 2025.

This years results have been through a post-marking adjustment process, which was first brought in due to the pandemic to ensure that students wouldn't receive much lower grades because of the disruption they experienced.

According to reports, this process is being phased out, with 35% of all grades this years being increased compared to last years increase by 52%.

Pre-pandemic results are expected to return in 2028, the SEC said via RTE.

In a recent interview with RTE, Minister for Education Hildegarde Naughton said that today is not just about CAO points.

"I do understand that there will be nerves this morning among parents and guardians as well as students themselves, and not to mention the teachers who have been a huge support to our students right across the country," she said.

"I think it's important to remember that this cohort... of Leaving Cert students went into first year in 2020 wearing masks, trying to get to know their friends and their peers through unprecedented times, so this has been a huge journey for them. Many will be very happy, some may be disappointed but just know that there are so many options open to every student now today - it's virtually limitless. This is a day of celebration and it's not just about CAO points, [students] can go on to do further education and PLCs," Naughton continued.
