Christian Horner has been sacked by Red Bull after 20 years with the Formula One team as team principal.
According to reports, Horner, was told of the shock decision yesterday, before addressing the team earlier this morning at their UK base in Milton Keynes. Sky Sports News have said that two other senior management figures with close connections to Horner, have also departed Red Bull.
Red Bull Managing Director, Oliver Mitzlaff said: "We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the last 20 years", he said. "With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1.
"Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.
Laurent Mekies has been appointed as CEO for Red Bull Racing, stepping up from the Racing Bulls Team, which will be headed by by Alan Permane.
According to Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle, Christian Horner had told him "no reason was given to him" for his dismissal.
During his tenure, Christian Horner has overseen two hugely successful periods for Red Bull, including Sebastian Vettel and the team winning four drivers' and constructors' championships from 2010 to 2013, as well as Max Verstappen winning the last four drivers' championships from 2021 to 2024.
The F1 team also won back to back constructors' championships in 2022 and 2023.
It has also been a difficult time for Christian Horner off the racing track. Last February, he was cleared of allegations of inappropriate behaviour, which were made against him by a female colleague. More on this here.
