Troy Parrott found the net on his Champions League debut as Real Betis secured a 3-2 victory away to Lille tonight.

Parrott's goal proved to be the winner, as Betis had earlier trailed their opponents twice in the game, with two goals from Betis defender Marc Bartra twice cancelling out strikes from Ayase Ueda and Alexsandro Ribeiro for Lille.

Four minutes after Bartra had equalised for the second time for Betis, Troy Parrott struck the winning goal on 53 minutes as the Spanish side held on for a victory on Match Day 1 of the league phase of their Champions League campaign.

Lille were also reduced to ten players when Ethan Mbappé, brother of French and Real Madrid superstar, Kylian was sent off on 56 minutes in an action packed Champions League tie.

Parrott's goal comes just a matter of days after the Dubliner scored a memorable winner for his new club in a 1-0 win against European giants Real Madrid last Friday. Madrid are managed by former Premier League winning manager, José Mourinho, who was head coach of Tottenham Hotspur when Parrott made his professional debut for the London club in 2019.

The Irishman joined Real Betis from AZ Alkmaar for a fee in the region of £20 million over the summer, and made his league debut last month in an away victory over Valencia at the Mestalla. Betis also won that game 1-0, with Parrott playing a key part in the winning goal.

The Republic of Ireland will be hoping that Parrott retains this rich vein of form ahead of their upcoming games in the UEFA Nations League at the end of this month.
