U2 lead singer, Bono had called out Elon Musk over his cuts to international aid, describing them as "unconscionable".

Bono spoke about this in a joint interview with The New York Times alongside his bandmate, The Edge, where he also claimed that the Republican Party has been "hijacked" by the Donald Trump administration.

The interview also saw Bono and The Edge discuss U2's 50th anniversary, as well as their upcoming 16th studio album, 'Carnaval De Luz' which arrives on November 13.

Speaking about the current political situation in America to the New York Times, Bono said: “I think this is the greatest heist in the history of the world: stealing America. And it’s not a caper movie. It’s real, and it’s happening".

Bono also claimed that decent people who voted for the Republican Party, have been conned by the current administration, saying that "their party’s been hijacked, and it’s an aggressive takeover. I want to invite them back. I want them to return".

The singer also criticised the decision from the US Government to cut international aid via Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which oversaw the United Stats Agency for International Development being cut.

“What Christian household, what Catholic household, what Jewish household, anyone of faith, in fact anyone of conscience, would allow the hemorrhaging of human life that is going to happen as a result of these DOGE cuts? It’s unconscionable", he stated.

Bono also referred to the Lancet during this interview, which published a study last year, saying that further reductions in funding from the USAID could lead to approximately 14 million more deaths worldwide by 2030, which would included 4.5 million children under the age of five.

News of this comes after U2 had announced a huge world tour for next year, titled, Carnaval De Luz, which begins in Mexico City next February. More on this from Nova here.
