Directed once again by Rob Reiner, who returns as the ever-earnest filmmaker Marty DiBergi, the sequel reunites the legendary mock-rock band—Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Smalls for one final, ill-fated reunion gig in New Orleans.

Set around forty years after the first film, the plot follows the band as they are contractually forced into the reunion by their late manager’s daughter, Hope, aided by an opportunistic promoter. While some jokes cleverly echo the original 1984 film, most are new and fresh. Rob Reiner has done the impossible, reinventing a sequel without losing its identity, satisfying both fans and newcomers with deadpan humour and notable music legends cameos. The finale, featuring a callback to the infamous Stonehenge gag, delivers a hilarious climax.
Our very own Marty Miller, rock connoisseur, attended the movie premiere hosted by Sony Pictures in the Savoy, and he had something to say about it! Give it a listen below.
The film is rated 15A in Ireland and runs for 1h22. It's currently showing at various cinemas across the country, including The Savoy, The Lighthouse Cinema, Cineworld on Parnell Street, and ODEON cinemas nationwide.
In conjunction with the release of the film, Spinal Tap will release their fourth album The End Continues, produced by Interscope Records, containing both new songs and re-recorded Spinal Tap tracks featuring Elton John, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood. Additionally, a behind-the-scenes book about the making of the original film and sequel, A Fine Line Between Stupid and Clever: The Story of Spinal Tap, written by Reiner, Guest, McKean, and Shearer, was released on September 9th.
So, dust off your leather pants, crank the volume up to 11, and get ready for a night of rock 'n' roll nostalgia with the band that never quite made it—but always made us laugh.
