Russell Crowe has responded after a video showing him scolding fans outside his Paris hotel went viral, defending his actions and insisting the situation was handled properly.

The Gladiator star was filmed speaking firmly to a group of autograph seekers earlier this week, warning them to keep their distance as he made his way through the hotel entrance. In the footage, Crowe can be heard telling fans, “Don’t f***ing push in on me. I’ll come to you. Give everyone space.”

He then asked the crowd, “Are you listening?”, before continuing to lay out his expectations for how the interaction should unfold.

He added, “As soon as somebody is a d***, I’m gone. You got me?” while gesturing for people to stay back. The exchange quickly circulated online, prompting debate among fans about whether the actor’s tone was justified or overly harsh.

Crowe later addressed the incident directly on social media platform X, responding to a post that has now been deleted. He is pushing back against criticism and offering his version of events.

He wrote, “Everybody got their autograph and selfie, the passage to the hotel was kept free for guests, and I still got to the airport on time.”

He also added, “One man, no security. Handled. What’s your problem?”

The actor’s response suggests he felt the situation was under control and that his comments were aimed at preventing the crowd from becoming disruptive rather than refusing fans altogether. The clip, however, has sparked wider discussion online about celebrity-fan boundaries and the pressures faced by public figures when interacting with crowds in uncontrolled settings.

Crowe, an Oscar-winning actor known for roles in films such as Gladiator, has previously been in the spotlight for high-profile public incidents, though he remains one of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars with a long-standing global fanbase.

Recently, locals on the Isle of Skye reportedly grew frustrated with the filming of the upcoming Highlander reboot, as Hollywood stars Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe descend on the Scottish island alongside helicopters, road disruptions and restricted footpaths.

The blockbuster remake of the cult 1986 fantasy film is currently shooting across parts of the Scottish Highlands, with Skye and nearby locations serving as dramatic backdrops for the action epic.

While excitement initially surrounded the arrival of major stars and film crews, some residents now say the production has become a major disruption to daily life.

One local claimed constant helicopter activity linked to the production has become increasingly difficult to tolerate.

“It seems Russell and Henry are being flown around in three choppers and the din is bloody incessant at times,” the resident said.

“At first we were quite excited about having Highlander filmed on Skye. It’s not often you get big Hollywood actors roaming about.”

However, enthusiasm reportedly faded as filming intensified.

“But the helicopters make so much noise that it’s hard to think,” the local added.

Residents have also raised concerns about restrictions being placed on public walking routes and footpaths around filming areas.

“The number of restrictions on public footpaths is getting on our nerves,” the source said.

“We think they’re here for at least a few more weeks and it’s just become a huge nuisance. Most people here just want it to be over.”
