Ryan Adams has been reportedly “cleared by the FBI” of sending sexual messages and images to an underage fan.

The investigation into the singer was sparked by a New York Times report that accused him of being “manipulative, obsessive and controlling.” These women included his ex-wife, Mandy Moore, Phoebe Bridgers and an underage fan who was 14 years old.

It was initially reported that the FBI squad for Crimes Against Children were investigating Adams and attempted to contact the underage fan that Adams was supposed to have sent 3,000 text messages to, over a period of nine months.

Now the publication, Page Six is reporting that Ryan Adams has been cleared. A source told the publication “Ultimately, the FBI found no evidence that would support charging Ryan with a crime, and closed its investigation, without charges, in the fall of 2019.”

The underage fan and Adams supposedly first bonded over music and then communication between the two increased. It was alleged that Adams had sent her explicit images of himself.

A rep for Adams denied all allegations. “Mr Adams unequivocally denies that he ever engaged in inappropriate online sexual communications with someone he knew was underage.”

If, in fact, this woman was underage, Mr Adams was unaware.”

When the news of these allegations broke, Adams had concerts cancelled and many fans cancelled their pre-orders of three albums that he was supposed to release in 2019.

Last July, Ryan Adams penned a letter apologising for his actions that was published by The Daily Mail.

“All I can say is that I’m sorry. It’s that simple,” said Adams. “This period of isolation and reflection made me realise that I needed to make significant changes in my life.”

“I’ve gotten past the point where I would be apologising just for the sake of being let off the hook and I know full well that any apology from me probably won’t be accepted by those I’ve hurt. I get that and I also understand that there’s no going back.”

“To a lot of people this will just seem like the same empty bullshit apology that I’ve always used when I was called out, and all I can say is, this time it is different. Having truly realised the harm that I’ve caused, it wrecked me, and I’m still reeling from the ripples of devastating effects that my actions triggered.”
