Ozzfest is officially returning to Birmingham, with Sharon Osbourne confirming that the legendary festival will take place at Villa Park in 2027.

The venue has now been announced on Ozzfest's official social media channels, confirming Sharon's previous comments that next year's revival would be held at the Birmingham stadium.

Villa Park holds a special significance for the Osbourne family, having hosted Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath's final-ever live performances last summer.

Ozzy died aged 76 just weeks after the emotional farewell concert, Back To The Beginning, which saw him reunite with his Black Sabbath bandmates for the final time.

Sharon, who was Ozzy's wife and manager, first revealed plans to bring Ozzfest back earlier this year.

She said the festival would "absolutely" return with Ozzy's blessing, and has since spoken about her plans to give a new generation of musicians a platform.

Sharon has promised to "find a lot of young, new talent" for the revived festival, telling her son Jack that this was "what your dad would want."

The official Ozzfest announcement promises "more info on everything coming soon."

Sharon, 73, previously revealed that the 2027 event could run for either one or two days depending on fan interest.

She also said she was already speaking to potential performers and headliners, with further announcements expected.

The new Ozzfest is expected to have a slightly different focus from previous editions, with Sharon wanting the festival to move beyond its traditional rock and metal audience while putting young artists front and centre.

Speaking to Billboard earlier this year, she said Ozzy had been particularly passionate about giving emerging musicians the opportunity to perform to large crowds.

"It was something Ozzy was very passionate about: giving young talent a stage in front of a lot of people," she said.

"Ours was a place for new talent. It was like summer camp for kids."

While Birmingham is the only location confirmed so far, Sharon has also said that she wants to bring Ozzfest back to the United States.

The original Ozzfest was launched in 1996 after Lollapalooza refused to give Ozzy a place on its line-up.

The first festival was a two-day event in Phoenix, Arizona and San Bernardino, California, with Ozzy headlining alongside Slayer, Danzig, Biohazard, Sepultura and others.

Ozzfest quickly became known for introducing audiences to new and emerging rock and metal acts.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, bands including Slipknot, Limp Bizkit and System Of A Down all appeared at the festival around the time they were releasing their debut albums.

The festival eventually expanded beyond the US, with Ozzfest editions taking place in countries including the UK, Germany, Belgium and Japan.

Its final incarnation was held as a one-off show in Inglewood, California in 2018.

Sharon previously explained that financial pressures and disagreements with band managers had contributed to the festival's disappearance.

Speaking on The Osbournes podcast in 2023, she said the event had become too expensive to continue.

"Managers and agents wanted more and more and more, and it just wasn't cost-effective anymore," she explained.

However, she later insisted that Ozzfest could return, saying that discovering new bands had always been at the heart of the festival.

"That's why we did it," she said.

The choice of Villa Park for the festival's comeback follows Ozzy's emotional final performance at the stadium.

Back To The Beginning was sold out and was streamed to more than five million people around the world.

Ozzy performed both as a solo artist and alongside Black Sabbath's original members, while the huge line-up also included Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Tool, Gojira, Anthrax and Mastodon.

Proceeds from the event went to Cure Parkinson's, Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity and Acorns Children's Hospice.

Sharon has also revealed that a concert film documenting Back To The Beginning will be released in cinemas later this year.

Further details about Ozzfest 2027, including the date and line-up, are expected to be announced soon.
