A long-awaited biopic about Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne is officially moving ahead, with Jack Osbourne confirming that the project is now firmly on track for a 2028 release.
The film, first announced in 2021, will chart the rise of Ozzy Osbourne—the legendary Black Sabbath frontman known as the Prince of Darkness—and his wife and manager Sharon Osbourne, who played a pivotal role in shaping both his solo career and public life.
Writing duties are being handled by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Lee Hall, best known for Billy Elliot and Rocketman, with the project developed by Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jack Osbourne gave a confident update on the production, confirming that momentum is building behind the scenes.
“I can tell you this: we are moving ahead,” he said. “I was on calls today about it. The script is right there. We are good. This movie will absolutely happen.”
He also indicated that key creative roles are now being locked in, including the search for a director.
“We’re about to start going out and getting a director attached. So, fingers crossed,” he added. “It’s very much been a labour of love… I’m really excited for everyone to see this film.”
Jack suggested that while progress is steady, audiences should not expect the film immediately, noting that a 2028 release window is most realistic given the scale of development still underway.

The biopic was originally announced while Ozzy Osbourne was still alive, but development has continued following his death in 2024 at the age of 76, with the project now taking on added emotional significance for the family.
Earlier this year, Jack Osbourne also revealed that a “phenomenal” lead actor had already been attached to the role of his father, although the casting has not yet been publicly confirmed.
The film is expected to explore both the chaos and legacy of Ozzy’s career—from his early days with Black Sabbath, through his solo success and public controversies, to the personal and professional partnership with Sharon Osbourne, who helped transform him into a global cultural figure.
Interest in music biopics has surged in recent years following the success of films like Rocketman and other high-profile projects currently in development across Hollywood.
With writing in place, early casting underway, and production teams beginning to assemble, the Osbourne biopic now appears to be moving from long-gestating idea to active production—something fans of the rock icon have been waiting years to see brought to the screen.
