British actor Stephen Graham has opened up about his friendship with singer Bruce Springsteen.
Graham who earned several Emmy Award nominations for his performance in Netflix hit, Adolescence, is also starring in the biopic 'Deliver Me From Nowehere', which follows the singer as he records his sixth studio album, Nebraska. The film will also see Graham play Springsteen's father.
This role has even seen Springsteen and Graham bond together.
“This sounds weird, but it’s not weird, it’s just what it is,” stated Graham. “I’ve got a really lovely new friend, and his name just happens to be Bruce, and he’s really lovely and he’s one of the most wonderful human beings I’ve ever met".
Previously, Stephen Graham had said that he received a text message from The Boss which left him in tears. Springsteen was praising Graham for his performance in Deliver Me From Nowhere.
Speaking to Soundtracking's Edith Bowman, Stephen Graham revealed that he received “the most gorgeous texts I’ve ever had in my life” from Springsteen for his performance in the biopic.
He called Springsteen's message, "better than any award" he had ever won, before adding: “I’m racing to get to the airport, and I got this text, and it was so beautiful. It just said: ‘Better than any award that I could ever receive in my life’. He’s an icon. He’s a hero".
“He’s a working-class hero. He’s an icon to thousands, to millions. And his text just said, ‘Thank you so much. You know, my father passed away a while ago and I felt like I saw him today and thank you for giving me that memory".
“I was crying reading the text, do you know what I mean? Oh mate, it was beautiful. You couldn’t ask for anything more, you know, to share that with someone was gorgeous. He’s a lovely man".
Stephen Graham also revealed that Springsteen was a fan the 2006 film, This Is England, which he starred in. The pair also chatted about the singer's book, Born To Run, where he spoke about his difficult relationship he had with his father.
“He loved me but he couldn’t stand me. He felt we competed for my mother’s affections", Springsteen wrote in his memoir.
