Echo and the Bunnymen have graced us once again with their first new record in four years, The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon. It’s streaming below.
Covering 15 songs, this album set brings together reworked versions of songs from their music cannon as well as two brand new tunes.
According to Consequence of Sound, if you’re into to the idea of hearing favourites like “The Killing Moon”, “Bring on the Dancing Horses”, “The Cutter” and “Lips Like Sugar” replete with “strings and things,” then this record is for you! But it’s also not for you… ok? That’s according to frontman Ian McCulloch.
In a press release, McCulloch said, “I’m not doing this for anyone else. I’m doing it as it’s important to me to make the songs better. I have to do it.” 30 years of consistent airplay might have convinced him these songs are pretty good?
Which ever side of the for you and not for you camp you find yourself in, this is an interesting audio experiment and the two new songs — “The Somnanbulist” and “How Far?” are pretty decent. All the older classics are robust offerings on their own and with the added sparkle dust.
