A 31 year old business student has pleaded guilty to three counts of offensive conduct of a sexual nature in UCD.
This happened after Rishabh Mahajan, the student in question, carried out sex acts in front of two women in the college, exposing himself while one woman had been studying, while another was walking to her car.
Mr Mahajan also touched himself while staring at a third woman's bedroom window when he was at an apartment viewing across the street from her.
The case was adjourned by Judge Treasa Kelly to a later this week for victim impact evidence.
Speaking on his legal behalf, the accused's defence barrister, Paddy Flynn said that he had never had any problems in his native India, but HE had "spiralled into squalid criminality" after he arrived in Ireland to study, according to reports in the Irish Independent.
Speaking in court, Garda Sergeant, Farrah Fox said that the first victim in this case was studying in a room in UCD on 15 December 2024, when Mr Mahajan came in an sat down. He began staring at her, before proceeding to masturbate in the room.
The woman turned and looked away, and the accused left the room a few minutes later.
Eleven days later, it was alleged that the accused stood in a garden opposite another victim's house, while she was in her bedroom, as he was "staring in the window and touching himself in an inappropriate manner".
The woman in question phoned the Gardaí.
On March 5 the following year, another woman claimed that she saw the accused who appeared to be leaning against her car as she was walking towards it.
In court, Sgt Fox said: "He had his pants down to his knees and masturbated while looking at her". The accused then left after the woman shouted at him.
Mr Mahajan was later found on campus by security, before he was arrested.
The accused was already in prison when he appeared in court, having received a four month sentence for a similar offence.
Mr Flynn added that the accused had arrived in Ireland in September 2024 to study a master's degree in business analytics at UCD. He added that his client was "quite popular at home in India" and never encountered these "kind of problems" before.
He added: "It seems for whatever reason, when he came to Ireland, he denigrated himself to this level", claiming that he had "spiralled into squalid criminality" after "imbibing in student life in the wrong direction".
Mr Flynn said that his client was smoking cannabis and drinking at the times of the offences committed.
He stated that while he did not condone his client's conduct in any way, in the incident at the house, he was only at that location to view an apartment, and that he "didn't just go into someone's garden".
The barrister also explained how Mr Mahajan had a degree and had a good career, but was removed by UCD due to these offences. He had not been able to return home to his family, and he had missed his sister's wedding, adding that he had "ruined his life as a result of his offending", but was "very remorseful" over what had happened.
He also said that his client was worried about returning home, for fear of being rejected by every part of society there, as he had been in Ireland.
The court was also informed how the accused still owed a student loan of more than €30,000, and there was also a deportation order in place, which he has been fighting.
