Talking Heads’ drummer Chris Frantz appeared to hint at a possible return for the band.

Frantz teased this possibility via social media, suggesting that the band which split up in 1991 following the departure of frontman David Byrne, could be set for a shock return.

Talking Heads’ original line up featured Chris Frantz alongside David Byrne, bassist Tina Weymouth and keyboardist/guitarist Jerry Harrison.

Speaking about the band’s split, Chris Frantz revealed in a recent interview that he only found out about it in a newspaper report.

“As far as we’re concerned, the band never really broke up. David just decided to leave”, he said.

“We shall return”

Taking to Instagram, Chris Frantz posted a photo of the band headlining a theatre, including the caption: “We shall return”.  Check that post out in full here.

However, Frantz was actually referring to the return to the band’s original line up for a Q&A at the theatre where their film ‘Stop Making Sense’ will be screened next month.

In a previous interview, David Byrne admitted that he regretted the way he departed the band, but added that his exit was “inevitable”.

“I think [the end] wasn’t handled well. It was kind of ugly. I have regrets on how that was handled”, Byrne admits. “I don’t think I did it in the best way, but I think it was kind of inevitable that would happen anyway”.

He also conceded that he behaved like a “little tyrant” during his time with the band.

“As a younger person, I was not as pleasant to be around. When I was working on some Talking Heads shows, I was more of a little tyrant”, he said.

Byrne also added, “And then I learned to relax, and I also learned that collaborating with people, both sides get more if there’s a good relationship instead of me telling everybody what to do”.

Back in February, it was also reported that Talking Heads had turned down an offer of $80 million to reunite. More on that story from Nova here.

That same month also saw confirmation that their iconic live performance for WCOZ-FM from 1977, will be made available for Record Store Day. More on that from Nova here.
