Classic hit from The Cranberries’, Zombie, has been voted the Greatest Irish Song Ever by the listeners of Radio Nova!

Ahead of this Bank Holiday Weekend here on Nova, we counted down the 50 Greatest Irish Songs, as voted by you guys!

Over this St Patrick’s Day Weekend, you have voted, and we have listened, with The Cranberries coming out on top with Zombie.

The band fronted by the late Dolores O’Riordan, fended off stiff competition to win this, from fellow Irish icons including Sineád O’Connor, Aslan, U2, Phil Lynott and more.

Zombie was one of two Cranberries tracks to feature in the top 10 of this top 50 list, with Dreams coming in at number 8 overall.

It is a song which some of you may have even belted out while watching the Boys in Green at last year’s Rugby World Cup in Paris!

Zombie was released on 3 October 1993, and featured on the band’s second album ‘No Need To Argue’, selling 17 million copies following its release.

Last October, the song even reached one billion streams on Spotify.

It was originally written by the late Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riordan, and is one of the most iconic hits from an Irish artist ever.

Thanks to everyone who voted and got in touch about this!
