The Dammed's Brian James has been buried at sea.

The guitarist who passed away on March 6 aged 70, was laid to rest on the ocean floor at a private ceremony, attended by his wife Minna, son Charlie, daughter in law Alicia, in what was described as a "very emotional" event.

Speaking about this, James' widow Minna, who had been with the guitarist since she was 18 years old, had this to say.

"It was a beautiful day and the sea was calm", she said. “We’ve been together since I was 18, so it was very emotional. A burial at sea is pretty unusual, but it was in his will so we had to do it".

Following their trip out to sea, a small memorial service was held at a church located near Brian and Minna's home in Brighton.

"Brian now sleeps with the fishes, which is what he wished for before he died", a source told The Sun. "He was a true original in life and has carried that on in death".

‘’The spirit of punk never left him and he was adamant he wanted his final resting place to be at sea", they added. ‘’A few loved ones went out on the boat for around three hours and watched as his coffin was dropped into the drink".

"a true gentleman"

Announcing his death back in March, a statement was shared via Brian James' Facebook account.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of the true pioneers of music, guitarist, songwriter, and true gentleman, Brian James", it read.

"Incessantly creative and a musical tour de force, over a career which spanned more than six decades, with his music also gracing film and television soundtracks, in addition to The Damned and The Lords of the New Church, Brian worked with a plethora of punk and rock ‘n’ roll’s finest, from Iggy Pop to Wayne Kramer, Stewart Copeland to Cheetah Chrome".

Along with the Dammed, Brian James co founded Tanz Der Youth, and The Lords Of The New Church. He is also renowned for working with The Dripping Lips and the Brian James Gang.

In 2022, James reunited with original bandmembers of The Dammed for a series of live shows across the UK, marking more than 40 years since they released their first single 'New Rose' in 1976.
