1959, Buddy Holly performed his final show ever at the Surf Ballroom in Iowa, the next day he died in a plane crash along with Richard Valens and The Big Bopper.


1963, The Beatles were the first of six acts to perform at the Gaumont Cinema in Bradford. They played a four-song set that included 'Taste Of Honey', 'Chains', 'Keep Your Hands Off My Baby' and 'Please Please Me'.

1966, The Rolling Stones went to number two on the singles chart with the track '19th Nervous Breakdown'.

1967, Appearing on Top of the Pops, the Jimi Hendrix Experience played the song 'Purple Haze'.

1976, Genesis released their first album without Peter Gabriel. Their seventh album titled A Trick Of The Tail, featured the band's drummer Phil Collins taking over the singing duties.

1979, While out on bail, Sex Pistols' bassist Sid Vicious died of a heroin overdose. He was on trail for the murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.

1993, The IRS in the US ordered Willie Nelson to pay $9 million of a $16 million tax bill.

2004, Janet Jackson suffered a "wardrobe malfunction" during a performance at the Superbowl half-time show.


2021, Marilyn Manson was dumped by his record label following claims by actress Evan Rachel Wood that she was "horrifically abused" by him. Loma Vista Recordings said it would no longer be working with Manson.
