Tom Hiddleston has officially confirmed that The Night Manager will return for a third season, ending weeks of speculation about the future of the hit BBC drama.

The actor appeared on This Morning to address rumours surrounding the show’s continuation, as its long-awaited second season prepares to air its finale this weekend. While many viewers feared the episode could mark the end of the series, Hiddleston made it clear that the story is far from over.

“I can confirm that there will be a third season,” he said, confirming that his character Jonathan Pine will return once again.

Hiddleston explained that the current run was never intended to function as a standalone chapter. Instead, the creative team planned the revival as part of a longer arc.

“We always constructed this one at the beginning of a twelve episode story,” he said. “It gave us greater scope, in terms of imagining where the story might go, knowing that we had another story come.”

Originally adapted from John le Carré’s 1993 novel, The Night Manager first aired in 2016, quickly becoming one of the BBC’s most successful dramas in recent years. The series earned international acclaim, winning multiple awards and introducing audiences to Hiddleston’s morally complex performance as former soldier turned hotel night manager Pine, who is drawn into the dangerous world of international arms dealing.

The decision to revive the show for a second season came almost a decade later, an unusually long gap that left fans unsure whether the series would ever return. When the BBC confirmed its comeback, anticipation was high, with expectations that the new episodes would expand beyond the source material of le Carré’s original novel.

Season two has done exactly that, broadening the scope of the story and deepening its espionage themes, while maintaining the tense, glossy tone that made the show a global hit. Its success appears to have reassured broadcasters and producers that audiences remain deeply invested in Pine’s story.

Importantly, Hiddleston also sought to reassure viewers that season three will not involve another ten-year wait.

While no release date has been confirmed, the actor indicated that the intention is to continue momentum rather than pause indefinitely once again. This reflects a broader shift in British television, where prestige dramas increasingly favour tightly planned multi-season arcs rather than open-ended renewals.

Whether the third season will serve as a final chapter remains unclear. The title of the series, the scale of its storytelling, and Hiddleston’s own increasingly busy film schedule have all prompted questions about how long The Night Manager can realistically continue. However, the confirmation that the show was conceived as a twelve-episode narrative suggests that the creative team has a clear end point in mind.

For Irish audiences, the series has long been a ratings draw, blending political intrigue with high production values more commonly associated with US prestige television. Its return also cements Hiddleston’s status as one of Britain’s most bankable television stars, capable of anchoring major projects both on the small screen and in Hollywood.

As the second season reaches its climax, viewers can now watch knowing that the story will continue. The only remaining question is whether season three will provide closure — or leave the door open for yet another return.
