Daniel Craig retired from the role of 007 in 'No Time To Die', since his exit from the franchise, fans have been speculating who he will pass the torch on to for the next film. The names thrown in the mix for the next Bond are Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Robert Pattinson, and Tom Holland.
The rumours that Tom Holland will be taking on the role has gained traction since the announcement that Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will direct the next Bond film. In late June, Amazon released the news that they wish to cast an actor in their twenties for the new Bond films as they plan to focus on a younger Bond in the new adventure films.
Despite being rumoured for several years for the role, Holland has never addressed these rumours until now. Holland was a guest on Gordon Ramseys Youtube channel, where he asked the marvel actor if he had "ever thought about using the name James in future movies going forward?”, to which Holland responded with “Listen, there’s speculation at the minute. We’ll keep it to a minimum for now. We’ll get there one day.”
Although Amazon MGM studios have yet to announce who will be taking on the role of Bond in the upcoming movies. When it was announced that they would prefer to cast a younger actor, there was criticism placed against Holland when his name was thrown in the mix. Fans expressed that although he has proven his abilities to star in an action film, they do not believe he would suit the role of James Bond due to him being "too adorable." Since the rumours surfaced, Holland has been filming his fourth Spider Man film, Brand New Day.
Villeneuve will direct alongside Tanya Lapointe, Amy Pascal and David Heyman will serve as producers as stated in a press release by Amazon MGM studios in June of this year. Villeneuve said in a statement "Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust."
Hollywood trade publication, Variety, has suggested that the new 007 movie could be released in 2028.
