Fire engulfs the mainstage at Tomorrowland's festival, destroying the stage just 48 hours before the festival begins. More than 70,000 people are expected to attend the festival in Belgium this weekend.

The main stage of the festival has been destroyed, firefighters were reported to be working non stop to prevent the fire from spreading to the woodlands nearby. The Mirror reports that nearly 1,000 employes were on site at the time of the fire, but the cause of the fire is still unknown. Although sources have stated to The Mirror that fireworks were heard, raising the possibility of an issue with pyrotechnics.

The festival released a statement to their official website today, the day they were planning on opening the festival to the public. They stated that nobody was injured during the incident but the stage is severely damaged, however no other parts of the festival venue were impacted.

"At 10:00 this morning, doors to DreamVille (campsite) have opened to welcome all DreamVille visitors. All Global Journey activities in Brussels and Antwerp will also take place today. It’s impossible to put into words what we’re feeling. The Orbyz Mainstage of Tomorrowland Belgium 2025, a creation born from pure passion, imagination, and dedication, is no more. This wasn’t just a stage. It was a living, breathing world.  From the very first sketch on a blank page, to countless hours of conceptual design, artistic collaboration, engineering, crafting, building, every single piece of Orbyz carried part of our soul. But, we hold on to the magic Orbyz gave us. To the dreams it carried. To the team who gave their all. We spent the night working on possible solutions for the Mainstage area. No other parts of the festival venue, stages or areas were impacted."

Tomorrowland opened it's gates today to welcome festival goers. Hundreds of artists are expected to play over the weekend, including David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia. The fire started at 18:00 local time on Wednesday, videos were shared to social media of the main stage being engulfed with flames. Mixmag shared to their Instagram a video of the stage 'burning down'.

An employee who had been working at the festival described the scene as "apocalyptic." "We suddenly heard bangs and saw fire near the stage, a huge amount of fire, we were just putting the finishing touches on it. One more day and it would be finished. Four weeks of work... gone in half an hour," the employee added.

Tomorrowland stated that the festival will continue as planned without the main stage.
