Gardaí have arrested two people following two aggravated burglaries in Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan on Sunday, April 29th.
It is reported after 7pm on the 29th, two intruders forced entry into the home of an elderly woman, aged in her 70s.
The intruders threatened the woman at gun point and made off with quantities of jewellery and cash, nonetheless minutes later two intruders entered a second house threatening the owner of the home, a man in his 90s.
They fled the scene with a sum of cash. However, the alarm was raised and during a follow-up operation, local Gardaí intercepted a car in Virginia whereby the occupants of the vehicle, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were arrested and detained at Bailieboro Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A technical and forensic examination of the scenes has been carried out. Investigating Gardaí have also recovered some of the property taken during the burglaries.
The elderly man and woman were not physically injured during the burglaries but did receive medical treatment and assessment. Investigations are ongoing and updates in the case will follow.
