Uisce Éireann has announced that repair works will begin this evening on a major trunk water main in north Dublin, with significant supply disruptions and reduced water pressure expected across a wide range of areas.

In a statement, the national water utility confirmed that crews will commence repair operations at 7pm, with works scheduled to continue overnight and conclude by approximately 7am tomorrow morning. The repairs follow a further burst on a critical section of the trunk main, which has been the subject of repeated interventions in recent days.

This latest incident marks the third time since last weekend that crews have had to carry out major repairs on the same stretch of infrastructure. Uisce Éireann teams previously worked through Friday night, Saturday and into Saturday night to fix two substantial bursts. Those earlier repairs were described as particularly challenging due to the scale of the damage and the proximity of the main to the M1 motorway.

As a result of tonight’s works, customers in several north Dublin communities may experience full interruptions to their water supply. Areas affected include Baskin, Kinsealy, Balgriffin, Belcamp, Clonshaugh, Stockhole, Coachman’s, Cloghran, Corballis, Turnapin, Dardistown, the Airways Industrial Estate, Royal Oak and Santry.

In addition, reduced water pressure is expected in parts of Clonshaugh Road, Clongriffin, Baldoyle, Portmarnock, Bayside, Sutton, Stapolin, Kilbarrack and Howth while the repairs are ongoing and as the network gradually recharges.

Tselopile Tlou, Water Network Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann, acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the unplanned outage. He said the utility understands the disruption for customers and thanked those affected for their patience and cooperation. Mr Tlou also noted that customers located at the extremities of the network or on higher ground may experience delays in the full restoration of normal water supply once works are completed.

To support households and businesses during the outage, alternative water supplies will remain available throughout the repair period. Water tankers have been positioned at Santry Park and Bayside Shopping Centre. Customers using these tankers are advised to bring their own containers and to boil the water before consumption as a precaution.

Uisce Éireann also reminded customers that those registered as vulnerable receive direct updates for outages lasting longer than four hours. The utility’s 24-hour customer care helpline is available on 1800 278 278, while queries can also be made via X at @IWCare. Real-time updates are available on the Uisce Éireann website, and customers can sign up for free text alerts by registering their Eircode and mobile number.
