The award winning documentary ‘Katie’ is set to hit cinemas next week on Friday the 26th of October, and has received raving reviews for it’s emotional depiction of the legendary Irish boxer’s career and tumultuous relationship with her father Pete and long-time trainer Pete Taylor.
The intimate movie explores the champion’s triumphs and how she overcame adversity and picked herself up after her 2016 defeat in the Rio Olympics. Following her success at the London Olympics, Taylor has become a treasured figure in Ireland, as well as an inspiration for female boxers and women within sport.
‘Katie’ won Best Feature Documentary at Galway’s Film Fleadh, with the documentary being described by critics as a riveting and a hard-hitting portrayal of the remarkable athlete. In an interview regarding the much anticipated movie, director Ross Whitaker stated: “It’s been a privilege to follow so closely the remarkable and fascinating quest that Katie has taken on and it’s priceless to be able to bring the audience so close to Katie. Katie might be shy and private, but she has that presence that draws the camera and the audience to her.”
