The trailer for Baz Luhrman’s Elvis film has finally dropped and it’s got me all shook up!
The much anticipated biopic from the eccentric director stars ‘Once Upon A Time In
Hollywood’s Austin Butler is the titular icon, Tom Hanks as manager as Colonel Tom Parker and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley.
At the launch of the trailer Butler admitted that these were “huge shoes to fill,” and for the songs “when I began the process of this, I wanted to get my voice to sound identical to his.” Luhrmann said that the young Elvis songs are all Butler; when he gets older there are some blending of material, with both Butler and Presley in the mix (literally).
The film is said to explore the life and music of Elvis by delving into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is also one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley.
Filmed in Australia and due for release on June 24 2022 in cinemas, also in the cast is Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things,” “The Broken Heart Gallery”) playing TV director Steve Binder.
Early this week Luhrman released a 15-second clip that mostly features the King’s back, with just enough hip-swiveling and leg-shaking to make the character clear while we hear, “Just gotta be making the most of this thing while I can. This could all be over in a flash”
In his tweet, Luhrmann used the #TCB hashtag, a reference to the Presley band name and the singer’s motto, “Taking Care of Business. ”
Hey, it’s time to TCB!⚡️
