Bruce Springsteen has made a powerful statement in light of the recent assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump.

Last Saturday night, President Trump was at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, before a man armed with a gun fired shots in his direction, before he was evacuated by Secret Service agents, along with other senior members of his administration.

Bruce Springsteen and Donald Trump's longstanding feud has been much publicised, with Springsteen having previously called out the President and his "treasonous" administration, which he also accused of "corruption" and "incompetence".

While on stage at Manchester's Co-Up Live last May, Springsteen said:  “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration. Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring!".

In response, President Trump hit back at Springsteen, calling him a "dried out prune of a rocker", and an "overrated musician".

"prayer of thanks"

Now, Bruce Springsteen has put the pair's differences aside to wish Trump well following the assassination attempt.

Last Sunday (April 26), Bruce Springsteen was performing as part of his 'Land Of Hope And Dreams' tour, and he said despite their quarrels, he would wish any harm on Trump or any members of his administration.

“We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs, but there is no place in any way, shape, or form for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States,” Springsteen said, also offering a “prayer of thanks that our President, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone attending, was injured” at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

The gunman was identified as Cole Thomas Allen, who was arrested, having reportedly been a guest at the Washington Hilton Hotel where the dinner was taking place.

Later, Mr Trump shared images on his Truth Social platform of the alleged suspect who was handcuffed on the ground. He also stated that the event would be rescheduled at a late night press conference following the shooting, which he claimed had "unified" political opponents and the media.

Despite the terrifying events over the weekend, Donald Trump has promised that King Charles will be "very safe" as his visit will go ahead as planned. More on this from Nova.
