Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are to release two new versions of classic tracks, 'Breakdown' and 'American Girl' to mark their 50th anniversary.
The tracks had first appeared on the band's self titled debut album, which arrived in 1976, with 'Breakdown' becoming Petty's first single to hit the top 40, peaking at No 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Meanwhile, American Girl despite failing to hit the charts, ultimately became on of Petty's most popular songs, and is often hailed as one of the best rock songs of all time. It is also the last ever song performed live by the late singer in September 2017. He passed away just a week later on 2 October, 2017.
Now, the Tom Petty Estate have released extended and newly mixed versions of the two songs. Both were remixed from the original multipack tapes in Hi-Res and Dolby Atmos. You can check out both mixes via this link here.
Back in 2024, the estate for the late singer had also released a special deluxe edition of Long After Dark, including previously unseen and newly remastered film and audio from 1982 to 1983, including a new video for the French TV version of 'Straight Into Darkness'.
It also included footage of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers performing at the Record Plant by Alan Bibby, and award-winning director. More on this from Nova here.
