ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard has died

Frank Beard, the longtime drummer for Texas rockers ZZ Top, died on Monday, aged 77.

According to Rolling Stone, band representative Bob Merlis confirmed the news, saying Beard died while in hospice care, surrounded by family, at his ranch in Richmond, Texas. An exact cause of death has not been revealed.

ZZ Top also announced that it would cancel its scheduled show tonight (August 18th) in Salt Lake City and tomorrow's show in Colorado Springs.

The band’s current tour will resume this weekend in Austin, Texas.

Born on June 11th, 1949, Frank Beard was known for being the only member of the band without a beard, as well as his talent as a drummer on iconic rock radio staples such as "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Legs" and "Sharp Dressed Man".

His death leaves singer, guitarist and ZZ Top founder Billy Gibbons as the only remaining member from the band's most successful decades.

Bassist & singer Dusty Hill died in his sleep in 2021.
