Phil Collins has revealed that he has not had a drink in three years amid "dark times" with alcohol addiction.
The singer announced this in a new interview with Prog, having revealed that his alcoholism had left him critical ill and on life support in 2024. His children had been travelling to visit him in Switzerland as they feared he might not make it.
In this new interview with Prog, Collins offered a much more positive update regarding his health.
“Physically now, I reckon I’m A1, 100 per cent,” he said. “I’ve worked at it. Haven’t drunk for three years. I do physio three times a week, to bring me up to speed. All is good!".
“I went through some pretty dark times,” the former Genesis singer added. “I was never ‘falling over’ drunk. That wasn’t it. It was just drinking ‘normally’, as one would drink water. I’d wake up, have a glass of wine. Watch TV, read a book, have a glass of wine. Some people’s insides can’t take it. Mine broke down".
In November 2023, Phil Collins was admitted to hospital, before being briefly discharged. He then returned weeks later, spending several months needing treatment, with his condition becoming critical by the following April.
Speaking about his time on life support, Collins added: “Kidneys and liver were waving the white flag. I was close to dying, and I hadn’t realised. I just thought I was sick".
“I’m never gonna say no now,” he stated. “I’ve got my little studio still, and I’d like to get down there and just mess about and see what happens. There are some things I could finish. And other things which are finished. So it’s not beyond the realms of possibility".
Back in May, Collins also ruled out performing live at this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Collins stated this, despite claiming to be feeling in better shape than he had for "quite a while".
"I can’t really see it happening, but I’m healthier now than I have been for quite a while", Collins said in a recent interview with BBC Breakfast.
He continued: “I mean, this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thing, they asked me if I would perform and I said no, [because] you’ve got to be match fit to do something like that".
“You can’t just go onstage – you have to rehearse, and by that point if you’ve not been singing then your voice is going to be shot, and then that’s not going to be good, so I’d rather not do it".
