Former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon was revealed to be the performer behind the Yak costume on The Masked Singer, leaving fans stunned.
This took place last Friday (January 9), where Lydon was revealed as the performer, having sang a cover of Olivia Newton-John's 'Physical', and was later subjected to the sing-off against the 'Monkey Business' contestant.
The reality TV show sees celebrities pitted against one another in disguise as they conceal their identities from a judging panel and a studio audience, who are invited to vote for their favourite act. The celebrity with the least number of votes must reveal their true identity.
Having been eliminated and required to take off his disguise, John Lydon was revealed as the Yak, with his official social media account writing: “John’s got the sad sack yak off his back and now he’s off to record the new PiL album! Thank you ITV, Masked Singer! Let’s Get Physical".
After the show, Lydon was asked if appearing on this show was the highlight of his career. To which he replied: “I hardly think so. For me, I hope the fun comes across".
He added: “Rather than going up there and doing sing-along and guessing who I am straight away, I thought, show the other side of me. An absolute funstar. I’m the court jester by nature. It’s just the way it is".
When asked whether he was sad to be leaving the television show, the former Sex Pistols frontman replied: “Certainly not. I think it’s been a privilege for you to have me".
Last month, John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten, took aim at his former Sex Pistols bandmates, claiming that none of them reached out to him following the death of his wife Nora.
Lydon, whose wife Nora died following a battle with Alzheimer's in 2023, said of his bandmates: “I expected some kind of connection when Nora died, but nothing".
John Lydon and Nora had been married for 44 years, having tied the knot in 1979.
At the time, the musician's management team posted this message on social media.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Nora Forster - John Lydon's wife of nearly 5 decades - has passed away, Nora had been living with Alzheimer’s for several years. In which time John had become her full time carer", they wrote. "Please respect John's grief and allow him space. Rest in Peace Nora. Heartfelt condolences to John from Rambo and all at PiL Official".
