Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith has surprised a group of drum students after he turned up as their substitute teacher.
The drummer joined forces up with Drumro to surprise the students as he stood in as their tutor, much to their surprise. You can catch footage of this below.
In this footage, Smith is spotted in a car on his way to the music school, before it moves to someone telling the students that their regular drum tutor is unavailable.
After arriving at the school, Chad Smith is greeted by a 10 year old "punk rock" fan, who lists his favourite bands, including Green Day, Blink-182, and of course Red Hot Chili Peppers, all the while completely unaware that he was talking to the latter's drummer!
The sticksman laughs at this, before replying: “Red Hot Chili Peppers, they’re not really punk rock, but okay!” He then tells the student: “Well, do you know I drum with Red Hot Chili Peppers?,” much to the child’s surprise.
The nervous youngster is then encouraged by Smith, who jokes: “Ignore the camera, and ignore me, the Hall of Fame drummer sitting next to you".
He is then seen jamming and working with the aspiring drummers. See footage of this below.
This is also not the first time that Smith has surprised his adoring public.
In November 2024, a busker along Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade delivered a rendition of Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Otherside', completely unaware that Chad Smith was watching.
The video itself, earned more than 64 million times on TikTok.
It was shared by the musician, Armond Davis, who wrote: “Yesterday, I played ‘Otherside’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and halfway through, I noticed someone really vibing which isn’t unusual,".
“But when I finished, a few people told me I’d just played for Chad Smith, the drummer of RHCP. Hearing him say I sounded good on a track he’s known for? Completely surreal. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!".
The caption itself read: Imagine shooting hoops in front of Michael Jordan and not even realising it?”.
