A woman in her 50s has been hospitalised after an alleged assault in Dublin City Centre.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, at around 4.40am.

According to The Irish Times, parts of Exchequer Street, Wicklow Street and Grafton Street have been cordoned off by gardaí following the alleged assault.

The woman in her 50s was taken to St James Hospital for treatment of "non-life threatening injuries" so far, a Garda spokesperson said.

They confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

This news comes shortly after a fatal assault occurred on Grafton Street over June Bank holiday weekend. 21-year old, Qayyum Balogun tragically died after an assault in the Grafton Street area. Balogun was found on Clarendon Street, near Grafton street in a serious condition. He was brought to St James' Hospital, where he sadly passed away.
