, that a woman in China woke up to discover she can no longer hear male voices. Ms Chen told doctors she had gone to bed with tinnitus or ringing in her ears. When she awoke she could no longer hear her boyfriend.
When she went to hospital Ms Chen discovered what was wrong or some might argue, right with her! Dr Lin Xiaoqing an ear, nose, and throat specialist explained, “She was able to hear me when I spoke to her but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn’t hear him at all.”
Ms. Chen can't hear deeper male vocal tones because of a rare condition called “reverse-slope hearing loss.” Only one in nearly 13,000 patients with hearing issues experience this particular type of hearing loss.
Dr. Xiaoqing is not completely sure why Ms. Chen suddenly couldn't hear male tones but suspects it was brought about by long days of working and stress. Dr. Xiaoqing predicts that Ms. Chen will have her full hearing restored.
