Woman in Her 80s Seriously Injured in Kildare Cycling Collision

A woman in her 80s has been seriously injured following a collision involving a bicycle and a truck in Co Kildare.

The incident occurred on the R414 Rathangan Road at Monasterevin at approximately 9.50am.

The cyclist, who is aged in her 80s, was seriously injured in the collision and was taken by ambulance to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin for medical treatment. Gardaí have confirmed that no other injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.


The section of the R414 at Cow Pastures has been closed to traffic to allow a forensic examination of the scene to take place. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area where possible while the examination is ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who was in the area at the time to come forward with any information that could assist their investigation.

In particular, investigators are asking anyone who was travelling along the R414 between approximately 9.15am and 10.15am to check whether they may have captured relevant footage. This includes motorists with dash-cam recordings, as well as anyone with other camera footage from the area.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Kildare Garda Station on 045 527 730. Information can also be provided to the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or to any Garda station.

Gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured footage around the time of the collision to get in touch.
