Zambrero is celebrating 20 years of service and giving, and to mark the milestone, the Mexican-inspired fast-food chain will give away 100,000 free burritos globally on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. The giveaway also highlights the chain’s extraordinary charitable impact, having donated over 100,000,000 meals through its Plate 4 Plate initiative since 2005.

Founded by Dr Sam Prince, Zambrero has used its restaurants as a platform to fight world hunger. Through the Plate 4 Plate scheme, every purchase of a regular or large burrito, bowl, Kids Zam Box, blondie, or brownie results in a meal being donated to someone in need. Franchise partners, team members, and customers have all contributed to the program, which works in partnership with organisations including Rise Against Hunger, Love Mercy, and Foodbank.

To celebrate two decades of giving and over 100 million meals donated, Zambrero is offering a free regular Classic Burrito to anyone who visits one of its Irish restaurants on 17 December. The offer is available from opening until closing, while stocks last, and allocations are limited at each location. Customers are advised that the offer is first come, first served, is available in-restaurant only, and is not redeemable through the Zambrero app. Variations of the product may apply depending on the restaurant. Full Ireland terms and conditions are available in-store.

The milestone is also celebrated internationally, with participating Zambrero locations in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and the United States joining the initiative, although specific offers may vary by country.

This year, Zambrero volunteers achieved a record-breaking feat by packing 1,033,364 meals across 10 global locations, surpassing the initial goal of one million. With the support of more than 3,000 volunteers, franchise partners, and restaurant teams, the additional 92,000 meals contributed further to the charity total, with donations reaching those in need in the Philippines through partnerships with Rise Against Hunger.

Dr Sam Prince said: “Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid. Plate 4 Plate Day is a reminder that when we dream boldly and act together, we do more than pack meals – we move hearts. Small acts, multiplied by many hearts, change lives.”

Customers looking to claim their free burrito can find their nearest Zambrero restaurant online and are encouraged to arrive early to avoid missing out on the limited allocation. This global initiative marks both a celebration of Zambrero’s 20-year journey and a continued commitment to reducing world hunger, one burrito at a time.
