A man in his 60s has died after being struck by a bus at Dublin Airport in the early hours of this morning, in an incident that has prompted a Garda investigation and caused disruption to traffic around the busy transport hub.
The fatal collision occurred on Corballis Road shortly after midnight, with emergency services responding to the scene.
Gardaí confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was later removed to the mortuary at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
A large area near the entrance to the airport, close to Terminal 2, was sealed off following the incident.
Multiple Garda units attended, and a shuttle bus operating within the airport grounds remained inside the cordoned-off area as forensic investigators began their work. The scene has since been preserved for a detailed technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.
In a statement issued this morning, a spokesperson for DAA, the operator of Dublin Airport, confirmed the fatality and extended sympathies to those affected.
The aftermath of the collision has also led to traffic disruption around the airport.
A partial road closure remains in place on one of the main access routes, with diversions set up to manage traffic flow. Motorists travelling to Dublin Airport today have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly during peak travel periods.
No further information about the victim has been released at this time.
Gardaí have confirmed that inquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing.
Investigators are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have been in the area at the time. Road users who were travelling on the Corballis Road between 11.45pm and 12.15am are being urged to come forward, especially if they have dash-cam footage that could assist with the investigation.
A Garda spokesperson issued a public appeal, asking witnesses to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01 666 4400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station. Authorities believe that even small details or video evidence could prove crucial in establishing exactly how the incident occurred.
