Record Store Day UK have confirmed new releases will be on the way in 2021 from the Clash and the Cranberries. This comes as both bands have teamed up with War Child to raise funds for the second year running.
This is part of two drops made by Record Store UK. A “HELP EP” featuring tracks from PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Portishead and Guru and many more will be released on June 12.
The second drop features the Clash and the Cranberries. This is to be released on July 17 and is called ‘If Music Could Talk’, Miles Davis’ ‘Miles Davis Champions From The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions’ The Cranberries’ ‘Stars: The Best of 1992–2002’.
“Very honoured”
Fergal Lawlor from the Cranberries said this, “We are very honoured that Universal have chosen Stars as a special Vinyl release for Record Store Day. The proceeds from sales are going to the War Child foundation, a charity that do incredible work to help vulnerable children in war-torn countries”.
Head of War Child Records, Richard Clarke added this, “We were delighted to be the charity partner for RSD last year and raise over £12,000 to help change the lives of children affected by conflict”.
Clarke also added, “It was a really difficult year for everyone and we’re really proud to have worked with RSD, the independent record store community and make a difference. The music industry has always been so important to this charity and we’re really excited to return as charity partner for 2021 as well as marking the partnership with our first release on War Child Records”.
This all comes after it was confirmed that last year saw vinyl surpass record sales for the first time since the 1980s. You read more about that here.
It was also revealed that following the first Record Store Day held last August, vinyl sales rose by 3%.
