Sir Kenny Dalglish has revealed that he is currently undergoing treatment for cancer after accidentally making the news public through a social media post.
The Liverpool and Scotland football legend said he had hoped to keep the diagnosis private but felt compelled to address the situation after mistakenly sharing information online.
It remains unclear exactly how the disclosure happened, although reports suggest Dalglish may have inadvertently posted a photograph relating to a hospital appointment before quickly deleting it.

In a statement, the 75-year-old said: "As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well."
He added: "Ideally, this would have remained private because that's the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand."
"Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected."
Dalglish also took the opportunity to thank the healthcare professionals involved in his treatment.
"As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves."
Messages of support quickly followed, including from his son Paul Dalglish, who shared an emotional tribute on Instagram.
'Like most families, we would have preferred to keep this private, but sometimes life has other plans.'
'My Dad has always been my hero, my best mate, and the strongest man I know. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from him, it’s how to face challenges with courage, humour, and dignity.'
'The treatment is going well, and knowing him, he’ll handle this the same way he’s handled everything else in life.'
'Love you Dad.'

Widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in British football history, Dalglish enjoyed legendary playing and managerial careers with Liverpool, winning numerous league titles, domestic cups and European honours.
He remains one of the club's most beloved figures and was knighted in 2018 for his services to football, charity and the city of Liverpool.
Away from football, Dalglish and his wife Marina have dedicated significant time to supporting cancer-related causes. Through Marina Dalglish Appeal, the couple have helped raise millions of pounds to improve cancer care and treatment facilities for patients and their families.
While Dalglish has not disclosed the type of cancer he is being treated for, he reassured supporters that his treatment is progressing positively. Messages of encouragement have continued to pour in from across the football world following his announcement.
