Music figures from all over the world attended the funeral of Glen Hansard to perform songs in his memory.
U2's Bono, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, and Markéta Irglová were among figures who attended the funeral in St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin.
Hansard, the frontman of The Frames, died aged 56, following a motorcycle accident in Dublin last Wednesday (July 29).
Hozier , The Edge, Steve Coogan, Imelda May, Paddy Casey, Declan O'Rourke, and Angelina Ball were among the figures paying their respects.
The service opened with former Frames member Colm Mac Con Iomaire carrying a guitar to the altar before performing alongside Liam Ó Maonlaí.
Later in the ceremony, Vedder joined Hansard's longtime collaborator Markéta Irglová and members of The Frames for a moving rendition of 'The Song of Good Hope' in tribute to the late musician. Vedder and Irglová released three albums together as The Swell Season, while Hansard also worked closely with Vedder, frequently opening for him on tour and contributing to his second solo album, Ukulele Songs.
Bono also performed a spoken word version of U2's 'A Beautiful Day', reworking some of the lyrics to pay homage to the late musicians. Watch here.
The U2 musician also played a voice message for Patti Smith left him on the day Hansard tragically died. She sang a song and said it is a "lullaby for Glen's family and friends." Watch here.
