Alice Cooper turned heads when he made a surprise appearance at Scarborough Market Hall over the weekend.

The rock legend, who has an estimated net worth of $50 million, looked worlds away from his famous on-stage persona as he explored the local market without his trademark heavy make-up and elaborate costumes.

Alice was in Scarborough with his band The Hollywood Vampires, who performed to a sold-out crowd of more than 8,000 fans at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

His unexpected shopping trip was shared by local shop owner Julie Henderson, who told the Scarborough News that she spotted the musician outside her store before he wandered inside.

“I noticed him outside my door and then he just wandered in, I instantly thought ‘Wow! Alice Cooper is in my shop’,” she said.

Julie described the singer as “really nice” and “lovely to talk to”, adding that he was “very down to earth”.

She also revealed that Alice purchased one of her Art Tote bags and was happy to pose for a picture modelling his new purchase.

“He allowed me to take a picture of him modelling one of my Art Tote bags he had just purchased,” she said.

“What a legend and great to see him supporting the local businesses.”

Alice, 78, is known for his theatrical performances and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of shock rock.

The musician has enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades, with hits including School’s Out, Poison and No More Mr. Nice Guy.

Away from his solo career, Alice is also a member of The Hollywood Vampires, the supergroup he formed with Johnny Depp, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and Tommy Henriksen in 2015.

The group takes its name from a celebrity drinking club formed by Alice in the 1970s and has released two studio albums.

While fans are used to seeing Alice dressed in his distinctive stage outfits, his low-key appearance at Scarborough Market Hall offered locals a very different glimpse of the rock star.

And it seems he left quite the impression on the local businesses he visited.
