Drivers are being warned of a number of road closures and traffic restrictions in Dublin city centre this Friday and Saturday due to events connected to Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Finance ministers from across the EU are in Dublin this week for a series of formal and informal meetings.
Events are taking place at several locations, including Dublin Castle, the Herbert Park Hotel, hotels in Ballsbridge, the Central Bank and the Guinness Storehouse.
Gardaí say traffic restrictions will be kept to a minimum, but drivers and pedestrians are being asked to follow instructions from officers on duty.
On Friday morning, traffic restrictions will be in place between 7.30am and 8.30am as security escorts travel from Ballsbridge to Dublin Castle.
These will primarily affect Merrion Road, Mespil Road, Leeson Street, St Stephen’s Green, Kevin Street, Bride Street and surrounding roads.
Rolling road closures will also take place between 8am and 8.30am between Ballsbridge and the north quays in Dublin 1.
Further security escorts will travel from the north quays towards Dublin Castle between 11.30am and 12pm.
There will then be road closures in the south city centre between Dublin Castle and the Guinness Storehouse from 5.15pm to 6pm.
On Saturday, another Garda escort will begin at 8am, again affecting roads in the south city centre. These closures are expected to finish by 9.15am.
Temporary parking restrictions have already been introduced in parts of Ballsbridge and will remain in place until Saturday afternoon.
There are also some longer-term closures around Dublin Castle while Ireland holds the EU presidency.
Castle Street, Ship Street Little and Ship Street Great are closed to traffic until December, although local access remains available.
Gardaí are asking members of the public to comply with officers and to be aware of possible rolling road closures while the events are taking place.
