U2 have revealed the title of their upcoming album, Carnaval de Luz, which translates as Carnival of Light.
Frontman Bono announced the title as he and bandmates The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jnr joined The Irish Times’ Róisín Ingle on a podcast to mark the band’s 50th anniversary.
During the interview, Bono appeared to check whether he was allowed to reveal the album title before saying: “It’s Carnaval de Luz.”
The singer also teased the new record, describing it as “strong stuff” and saying the band had “caught it again” with the new material.
He said the album is a “prequel” to the two EPs U2 released earlier this year, Days of Ash and Easter Lily.
U2 are set to release their new single, Silencio, tomorrow, Thursday, September 24, with further details about the album expected to be announced this week.
Carnaval de Luz will be the band’s first album of original material since Songs of Experience, which was released in December 2017.
The group’s most recent album was Songs of Surrender, released in March 2023. However, that record featured re-recorded and reimagined versions of 40 songs from U2’s back catalogue rather than new original material.
The band have continued to release new music in the years since Songs of Experience, including the singles Ahimsa, Your Song Saved My Life, which featured on the Sing 2 soundtrack, and Atomic City, released during their Las Vegas Sphere residency.
With two EPs already released this year and more new music on the way, Carnaval de Luz is set to add to a busy 2026 for the Dublin band.
