Despite supporting the upcoming Beatles biopics, directed by Sam Mendes, Paul McCartney has admitted there was one tiny issue which made him reach out to the director and urge him "don't do this".

The music icon spoke about this to Amy Poehler as part of the Good Hang podcast, where he said that he saw a still from the films, which star Irish actor, Paul Mescal. The still was taken as the cast were filming the creation of the famous 'Abbey Road' album cover in London, when he noticed the actor playing him is shorter than he actor playing John Lennon.

In the interview, McCartney said that all four members are about the same height but“Guess what? [Mescal looks] smaller than the guy who plays John!”.

He continued: “I don’t know how Sam’s going to deal with it… but [Mendes] he sent me a still from the filming they’re doing, crossing the Abbey Road crossing, and the Paul character is markedly smaller".

Poehler had suggested that this could simply be down to him choosing to go barefoot when photographed for the Abbey Road cover, McCartney revealed that he texted Mendes out of frustration and said:  “Don’t do this!”, before Mendes reassured him: “It’s OK, it’s just the stride pattern”.

These biopics are set for release in April 2028, starring Paul Mescal as McCarney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.

In other news, it was revealed that the key to Paul McCartney's childhood has sold for £6,100 at an auction, much more than its original estimate. More on this here.
