British royal, Prince William made a surprise appearance on an Earthshot Prize edition of The Graham Norton Show.
The Prince of Wales's appearance on the show will air on the BBC tonight, where he will join Robert Irwin, Cate Blanchett, and Hannah Waddingham on the sofa to speak about the environmental award, which connects all four guests.
William is to attend the Earthshot Prize next month, where he will met Bollywood stars and learns about the hugely popular film industry in India, along with presiding over the ceremony, with £5 million awarded in prize money.
This ceremony encourages children across India to tackle the environmental issues this year, as part of the 'I Can Earthshot Challenge'.
Since launching in 2021, the award has featured a lot of stars, including another guest from Norton's sofa, Cate Blanchett, who is an Earthshot Prize council member, while Hannah Waddingham hosted the Earthshot Awards in 2023 in Singapore, and Robert Irwin is a global ambassador for the prize.
While on the sofa, Prince William spoke about the origins of the prize, and the role it plays in identifying and supporting innovators worldwide.
“For many years I was hearing stories about environment issues and one thing that struck me was the negativity and doom which got me down", he said per reports in the Irish Independent. “I thought we could do something more powerful and more optimistic and the idea of an awards’ ceremony came about and we could talk about urgency and optimism together".
“It’s all about getting excited".
Elsewhere, Cate Blanchett called the prize a "tapestry of solutions", while Robert Irwin said that it played a huge role in appealing to a new generation of environmental advocates.
Prince William also spoke about wanting to be a policeman and DJ when he was younger, as well as his fondness for Celebrity Traitors.
The latest episode of The Graham Norton will feature music from singer, Jorja Smith, including Dancing live in the studio, before joining Norton and the other guests for a chat.
This will air at 10.40pm pm BBC One.
Last year, Graham Norton revealed the worst guest he ever interviewed on his popular chatshow. More on this from Nova here.
