A group of trainee pilots in Finland have landed themselves in trouble after their flight paths were found to have traced explicit shapes in the sky during a routine training exercise.
The incident took place on the morning of April 13 when a number of cadets from the Finnish Air Force took off from Jyväskylä in Grob G115 training aircraft. What was supposed to be a standard session focused on practising aerial turns quickly took an unexpected turn, as flight-tracking data later revealed that the pilots had manoeuvred their aircraft into patterns resembling penises.
The unusual activity was picked up by users of the live tracking platform Flightradar, where observers noticed the shapes forming in real time. Screenshots of the flight paths were quickly shared online, drawing widespread attention and prompting questions about conduct within the training programme.
Further analysis suggested that at least four aircraft were involved in the stunt, with the shapes appearing during a flight that began at approximately 7:30am. In addition to the crude drawings, the cadets were also found to have traced other shapes in the sky, including two heart symbols near the area of Säkinmäki.
While the flights themselves were conducted within a designated training zone and posed no risk to other aircraft, the behaviour has been strongly criticised by the Finnish Air Force, which has confirmed that disciplinary action is being taken.
A spokesperson for the Air Force told Finnish outlet Yle: “The Air Force requires soldiers to follow good manners and rules of conduct, and if these are deviated from, it will be responded to appropriately.”
They added that the manoeuvres did not cause any disruption to regular air traffic, but emphasised that the issue lies in the breach of expected standards rather than safety concerns.
In a further statement, the Air Force reiterated its position on discipline within its ranks, stating: “The Air Force requires its service members to adhere to standards of conduct and discipline. Appropriate action will be taken in the event of violations.”
An internal investigation has now been launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the घटना, including how the stunt was coordinated and whether multiple individuals were acting together deliberately.

The incident has sparked a mixture of amusement and criticism online, with some social media users treating the situation as a harmless prank, while others have pointed out the seriousness of maintaining professionalism within military training environments.
Although the cadets involved were reportedly in the early stages of their aviation training, the expectations placed upon them remain high, particularly given the responsibilities associated with operating military aircraft. Even during training exercises, pilots are expected to demonstrate discipline, precision, and adherence to protocol at all times.
The Grob G115, the aircraft used in the exercise, is a lightweight training plane commonly utilised by air forces for basic pilot instruction. It is designed for manoeuvrability and ease of handling, making it suitable for practising turns and aerobatic techniques—capabilities that were evidently used for unintended purposes in this case.
Incidents involving unusual or inappropriate flight paths are rare but not unheard of, particularly in the age of real-time flight tracking where even minor deviations can quickly become public.
However, cases involving military personnel tend to attract greater scrutiny due to the strict codes of conduct governing armed forces.
